Budget Wedding Menu …

Our Goal: We have created this menu especially to allow creativity and fiscal responsibility to merge into a process that will make the cake planning experience enjoyable for all. We believe that it is definitely possible to have a dream wedding cake while adhering to a budget.

How Is It Possible? This is a technical question that we will attempt to explain as follows. Basically, by making a few compromises in construction and size (NEVER on taste!), we can assemble a cake to rival those in any magazine!

The Construction Process: A “traditional” wedding cake is comprised of 3 layers of cake and 2 layers of filling in each tier. This makes each tier very tall (approximately 4”– 4 ½”) and allows the cutter to get approximately twice the number of servings per tier as an “occasion” cake. An “occasion” cake (like what you would receive for a birthday or special occasion) is comprised of 2 layers of cake and 1 layer of filling in each tier (making it approximately 3” – 3 ½” in height). The construction process of a “traditional” wedding cake takes approximately twice as long as that of an “occasion” cake. These are the two main reasons that wedding cakes are so expensive.

Pros:
  • Because there are not as many servings per tier in an “occasion” cake as in a “traditional” wedding cake, it is possible to have many more tiers than one would normally expect. Even though each individual tier is not as tall as usual, a cake constructed in this manner tends to be larger in diameter and just as tall (if not taller) over all as a typical “traditional” wedding cake would be. In other words, we’re creating an optical illusion that results in grandness!
  • The scaled down construction also scales down the cost.
  • By lowering the base price of the cake itself, it is possible to put a higher percentage of the budget into a more elaborate design.
  • It may be possible to pick up your cake and save on the delivery charge!

Cons:
  • Some designs don’t lend themselves to the shorter tiers.
  • Sheet cakes may be required to serve larger numbers of guests.
  • The cake may not be as tall over-all as a “traditional” wedding cake, depending upon the number of servings and/or tiers.
  • It is possible that the design charge may exceed the base price of the cake.

What’s the Catch? There is no catch. The budget cakes are the same cakes as those on the “traditional” wedding cake menu; there is no difference in quality or taste. It is merely a matter of construction and design.

Pricing: $4.00/serving for tiered cakes; normal occasion cake menu pricing for sheet cakes. The design charge and delivery/set-up charges will vary greatly depending upon the intricacy of the design and distance/complication of set-up.

Who do we recommend take advantage of the Budget Menu?
  • Couples with a guest list of 100 or less
  • Couples on a tight budget who do not mind compromising some of the more elaborate design principles or the use of sheet cakes to supplement  a smaller centerpiece cake

Chiffon Cake: This cake is similar to a European sponge cake witha light and airy texture. (May be flavored with vanilla, almond, lemon or orange)

Chocolate Chiffon Cake: Very light chocolate flavor, not recommended for die-hard chocoholics.

Mocha Chip Cake: Rich and moist coffee flavored cake liberally studded with chocolate chips.

Let us help to make it special by creating a beautiful cake that tastes  as good as it looks. All of our cakes, fillings and icings are made from scratch using only the finest ingredients. Our buttercream is a Suisse Meringue base made with 100% real butter. The preserves, marmalades and curds are made in-house with tried and true old fashioned recipes using Ohio grown fruit whenever possible (with the exception of our raspberry marmalade, simply because we haven't found a recipe to match the product that we use!)  Our cakes, also from scratch, encompass a wide variety of flavors and textures sure to please even the most discriminating of palates. You'll find no cake mixes in our pantry!

Our decorations compare to none! We specialize in realistic white chocolate flowers, ribbons and bows which, unlike pastilliage and gumpaste creations, actually are edible and taste good! Each and every petal of our flowers is hand cut, shaped and formed together to create exquisite blooms that are almost impossible to distinguish from the real thing. We custom design each and every cake, consulting your florist to co-ordinate the blooms we make to your bouquets and matching the color swatches that you provide. Whether you are interested in a simple, elegant cake with smooth, clean lines, a non-traditional "whimsy" cake or an elaborate master piece fit for a princess, Delicacies by Sheri is the cake studio to choose.
